Reflections from the Yucatán: A Pilgrimage of the Sacred Feminine

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. – Helen Keller

Dear Friends,

I have just returned from a transformative and spiritually enriching pilgrimage to the Yucatán Peninsula, where we delved into the Divine Feminine archetype through the perspective of Mayan cosmology and spirituality. This journey invited us to listen intently, honor nature's rhythms, and reconnect with the sacred through storytelling, ritual, and embodied presence. This was another Divine Feminine adventure crafted and led by Rev. Dr. Megan Wagner, www.meganwagner.com, and it marks the fourth such journey I have been privileged to undertake with her.

During our time there, we engaged with the living wisdom of the Mayan tradition—not as a historical artifact, but as a dynamic and evolving culture that continues to influence the land, its people, and the spiritual life in the region today. We experienced this living tradition through sacred art, ancient temples, traditional ceremonies, and the guidance of those who sustain these practices.

🌀 Sacred Sites of the Maya

We visited the Ek Balam, Chichen Itza and Tulum, breathtaking temple complexes imbued with cosmic alignment and sacred meaning. Standing among the ruins, I felt the heartbeat of the ancient Mayan people who lived in harmony with the stars and the earth.

🌊 Healing Waters of the Cenotes

We swam in sacred cenotes—natural limestone pools the Mayans considered entrances to the underworld, symbolic of death, rebirth, and the womb of the earth. The moments immersed in these crystalline waters were deeply healing and reflective, and fun!

🌍 Sian Ka’an Biosphere: “Where the Sky Begins”

A highlight was visiting Sian Ka’an, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that holds pristine forests, mangroves, reefs, and lagoons. It's home to thousands of species—manatees, dolphins, turtles, and tropical birds. This living sanctuary reminded me that protecting and honoring creation is one of our most sacred callings.

🌕 A Cosmic Blessing

On our final night of the journey, we stood beneath the stars and witnessed a total full moon lunar eclipse—a blood moon. Bathed in red light, the moon seemed to mark the end of this sacred time with divine punctuation. It felt like a personal and collective blessing.

💜 A Sacred Circle of Women

Celebrating International Women’s Day together during the retreat was incredibly moving. We honored the strength and beauty of women everywhere through ritual, storytelling, and prayer.

I return home with a heart full of gratitude – for the land, for the people who welcomed us, for the timeless stories etched in stone and sky, and for the reminder that the sacred is always near, waiting to be seen and honored.

May the wild, wise, nurturing presence of the Sacred Feminine continue to rise among us.

In Spirit,

Lily
